Drunk driving is a serious charge that could have a significant impact on your life if you don’t take steps to avoid the consequences. In most cases, people hear about how bad it was that someone was intoxicated behind the wheel or jump to the conclusion that the driver was intoxicated because of their actions.
The reality is that no case is black and white, and this is something that everyone has to remember, especially now that law enforcement is cracking down on those who may be driving while impaired.
According to an Aug. 17 report, Alabama and Tennessee are both joining together to stop people from driving drunk. They’re enacting the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign, which they hope will reduce the number of drunk drivers on the roads. The campaign also targets those who are impaired due to drugs or medications. Impaired driving may also include those who are too tired to drive, those using cellphones and people in other circumstances.
In Alabama and Tennessee, officers will set up a traffic safety check at the states’ shared border. The initial border patrol only lasted until Aug. 17, but the campaign as a whole runs through Labor Day in hopes of reducing the impact of impaired driving on families and individuals over the holiday weekend.
Remember, you have rights even if you’re pulled over and arrested for drinking and driving or being impaired behind the wheel. An accusation does not always have to lead to a conviction. You can look into ways to eliminate the charges against you.
