How can I find treatment for drug issues?

On Behalf of | Dec 10, 2018 | Drug Crimes |

Being charged with a drug crime in Tennessee is no laughing matter. In addition to the legal woes that you are facing, you may also have concerns about seeking drug treatment if addiction issues are contributing to your problems. Having the right information is a huge aspect of securing effective treatment, and the National Institute on Drug Abuse offers the following information to help people get the help they need.

In order for treatment to be successful, it must contain certain elements. For instance, drug treatment should address numerous issues, including those relating to a person’s mental and emotional health. For this reason, many types of treatment involve behavioral counseling, which addresses underlying issues that could be contributing to drug use.

Medication may also be necessary for treatment. People with opiate addictions are often given buprenorphine, which controls cravings to prevent relapses. Other types of medications are used to limit the euphoric effect of opiates. This is true of naltrexone, which actually blocks receptors in the brain. Medications are particularly beneficial during the detox process, which is when substances are allowed to leave the person’s body in a medically monitored environment.

In terms of treatment options, patients can access inpatient or outpatient treatment center. Inpatient treatment requires a person to stay in a monitored center, where their needs can be met on a 24/7 basis. This is usually the best option for people suffering from long-term drug addictions, who are more prone to relapse. After inpatient treatment, the person can be placed in recovery housing. In this environment, the patient can transition from their previous treatment to short-term housing, which helps with their final integration back into society.
