If you plan to drive, don't drink: Save a life

Drunk driving is a dangerous habit to get into, yet many people do. Whether it's young adults who recently turned 21 driving between bars or an older individual who has an addiction issue, anyone who drinks and drives is putting themselves and others in danger.

It is illegal to drive with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08% or higher. If you show signs of impairment, you could face charges for driving while intoxicated under that limit.

Drunk driving has an impact on everyone

Did you know that 10,511 people were killed in drunk driving-related crashes in 2018? In 2017, 29% of all traffic fatalities were linked to drunk driving. Worst of all, 220 children under the age of 14 were killed in drunk driving collisions in 2017.

If you plan to drink, be responsible

If you plan to drink and have to drive, be responsible and plan a safe ride home. You can choose a nondrinking friend or family member to be a sober driver, or you can call a taxi or ride-sharing service.

Better yet, if you see anyone trying to get into a vehicle and drive when they're impaired, stop them. Help them get a safe ride home, and you just may save their life and the lives of others.

Drunk driving has a notable impact on American society. If you ask someone if they've been impacted, the likelihood is that they have or that they know someone who has been hurt or killed by a drunk driver. Be safe so that you can avoid causing crashes and avoid a DUI.
