Be respectful of large trucks this holiday season

On Behalf of | Dec 3, 2019 | Commercial Vehicle Accidents |

Commercial accidents are scary. They can involve large semitrucks carrying any kind of goods, or they could involve box trucks, mail carriers, trash collectors or others. Regardless of the kind of vehicle that is involved, the reality is that injuries and deaths are possible. When you add in the fact that these commercial vehicles are usually much larger than typical passenger vehicles, you see that there is a higher chance of serious injuries and deaths in these crashes.

Now that the winter is getting close, and the holidays are here, you may notice an increase in the number of large vehicles on the roads. They’re transporting goods, hauling foods and generally making sure everyone has what they need at this time of year. Unfortunately, that also means that there is an increase in the number of large vehicles on the roads combined with an increase in traffic as a result of the holiday season.

What can you do to make holiday travel easier with so many large vehicles on the roads?

It is most important to be aware that these vehicles will be present. Large vehicles aren’t necessarily more likely to crash into you, but the drivers do need more time to stop and maneuver.

Be aware of their needs and do your best to give them space. Even if it means slowing down (and even potentially slowing down traffic behind you), it’s worth keeping your distance and making sure you and the driver both have time to maneuver when necessary. That kind of respect for larger vehicles will help you stay safe this holiday season.
