Why are truck accidents so dangerous for other drivers?

On Behalf of | Nov 24, 2017 | Commercial Vehicle Accidents |

Commercial vehicles weigh up to 25 times more than personal vehicles. As a result, a crash with a commercial vehicle can be devastating to those in a passenger vehicle. The larger vehicle could crush the cabin, cause the front end to burst into flames or crush the vehicle from behind, pinning people inside and requiring emergency help to free them.

Commercial trucking accidents sometimes happen as a result of negligence or distractions. Take for example the fact that many drivers have to complete jobs on a timeline. These drivers might speed to get where they need to go faster, but that’s a bad idea. In doing so, they put others at a higher risk of serious injury if a crash occurs. At the same time, drivers who are on a deadline may cut back on their sleep or drive when they should be resting, making it dangerous for them to be on the roads.

Depending on the kind of freight being carried by the commercial truck, you could find yourself with significant injuries caused as a secondary effect of the crash. For instance, if there are chemicals being transported, you could suffer from chemical burns or other toxic reactions as a result of coming into contact with them. Likewise, if a truck is carrying gasoline or petroleum, exposing it to an engine fire could lead to an explosion and burns for you, the driver of the truck and others around the scene.

If you’re hurt in a truck accident, you have a right to pursue a claim. Your injuries are serious, and your case should be handled with care.
