Traffic congestion and pedestrian accidents

On Behalf of | Apr 11, 2020 | Car Accidents |

Pedestrians face many risks while walking near traffic or trying to cross the road. However, those who regularly find themselves on very busy roads are especially likely to become involved in an accident. There are many ways in which traffic congestion increases the odds of pedestrian accidents, as well as other types of traffic accidents. It is imperative to watch out for these hazards whenever you walk in a busy area (or near any roads, for that matter).

Drivers often behave erratically on heavily congested roads. Some try to pass other vehicles in the wrong lane, or they abruptly switch lanes (causing other vehicles to veer off of the road).

Erratic drivers

Drivers also have more difficulty noticing pedestrians when the roads are hectic. As a result, crossing the street is more dangerous in these instances. For example, a driver who is running late is more likely to attempt to run a red light, without paying attention to pedestrians who are trying to cross. Unfortunately, these accidents claim a lot of lives and also leave pedestrians with debilitating injuries that prevent them from working and pursuing their goals.

Standing up for your rights

It is critical for pedestrians who are involved in traffic accidents to take a firm stand for their legal rights. Exploring all options on the table is crucial and for many, taking their case to court is necessary. By filing a lawsuit, many victims are able to get help with medical costs, lost wages and other financial burdens brought on by an accident.
