Data on fatal traffic accidents at different times

On Behalf of | Nov 16, 2022 | Car Accidents |

On the road, it is essential to have a clear understanding of the traffic crash risks that you face. You could find yourself involved in a serious collision as a result of inclement weather, a drunk driver or someone who uses their cell phone instead of focusing on the road. It is critical to go over various factors associated with motor vehicle collisions and understand when the likelihood of an accident is especially high. For example, you should look at statistics on different times of day and days of the week when auto accidents occur more frequently.

Sadly, some collisions lead to the loss of life. Whether your job involves driving and you spend a lot of time on the road or you occasionally get behind the wheel to run errands, it is essential to remain vigilant and understand when a deadly accident could become more probable.

Statistics on traffic crashes at different times

The Bureau of Transportation Statistics published data on different times when deadly traffic collisions occurred. In 2020, over 35,700 deadly traffic accidents took place. 17.2% of these accidents happened on Saturdays, followed by Sundays (15.6%) and Fridays (15.4%). More deadly crashes took place between 6 PM and 9 PM compared to other times (18.2%), followed by 9 PM to 12 AM (16.2%).

The impact of deadly traffic crashes

Although more fatal crashes happened on weekends during the evening hours in 2020, you could become involved in a deadly traffic collision at any time you take to the road. Fatal accidents leave families with devastating emotional pain as well as financial challenges due to funeral costs, medical expenses and other hardships. If a driver’s reckless behavior claimed the life of your loved one, make sure you hold the driver answerable.
